Perhaps love
In its most basic, genuine expression
Is simply two hearts
Friends
Family
Strangers
Showing each other our broken bits
And being brave enough
Honest enough
Authentic enough
Loving enough
To hold those fragile pieces
So gently
So carefully
In our warm hands and kind hearts
That the other person knows
And feels deeply
That they are seen
Heard
Held
Perhaps it is simply
Two hearts
Cracked wide open
Willing to sit with another’s darkness
Even in our own discomfort
And say
I got you, love.
